Tackle a 50km Silver distance
You've got your XC endorsement and can fly around local tasks successfully. But flying your first solo XC and aiming for a distance over 50km will seem insanely ambitious. However most people succeed on their first attempt, so why not you?

A straight line task landing at another GC is a great way to achieve Silver distance and gain the valuable experience of landing at another airfield. Possible tasks include:

Getting well prepared in advance is the secret of success. Look at the routes on the aviation charts and note down the en-route airfields and air strips, and their radio frequencies. Also consult the CGC Field Book. Its very important to talk to Cambridge ATC if passing within 5mn of Marshalls. (see CGC-Cambridge LoA document). The best time of year for a Silver distance is when the crops are being cut in August. There is then a big choice of suitable landout fields. One or two further points:
